During the past few months, we have seen major changes at the village. With the COVID pandemic affecting our community, we shifted our focus and efforts to the food box program in which we have been delivering food boxes to about 350 families. Thanks to our staff and volunteers, this has been a great success. This program is ongoing and feeding the community will continue to be a part of the mission of the village through the Nutrition House and community garden. Both of these projects are ongoing and will be focused on proper nutrition and cooking practicesfor all of our community members. In order to make the Nutrition House a reality, we were able to fundraise $50k that was matched by the Michigan Economic Development Coalition.
Also during the past few months, we were able to recruit a virtual team who have been supporting and working with the on-ground team to help the village run smoothly. With the virtual team’s support, the food box deliveries, gardening, fundraising, and all other volunteer opportunities have been better facilitated. For our on-ground volunteers, we have been receiving PPE from Fiat Chrysler, who donated six thousand dollars worth of face masks, Blueprints for Pangaea, as well as our community. Other projects that are in the works include a new walking and biking trail around the village for the kids and a small park with play structures. We plan on helping the community through our food boxes, the Nutrition House as well as the community garden.
