During the past few months, we have seen major changes at the village. With the COVID pandemic affecting our community, we shifted our focus and efforts to the food box program in which we have been delivering food boxes to about 350 families. Thanks to our staff and volunteers, this has been a great success. This program is ongoing and feeding the community will continue to be a part of the mission of the village through the Nutrition House and community garden. Both of these projects are ongoing and will be focused on proper nutrition and cooking practicesfor all of our community members. In order to make the Nutrition House a reality, we were able to fundraise $50k that was matched by the Michigan Economic Development Coalition.
Also during the past few months, we were able to start our walking path project. This walking path will allow the children of the neighborhood to get active in conjunction with our playground area. With the virtual team’s support, we were able to get financial support for our project as well as resources to get the project moving. Special thanks to Kresge, University of Michigan, Wayne State University, University of Detroit Mercy, our Donors, and all of the volunteers that has helped us get to this point. We could not have done it without you.
