Summer Updates

We have been making great progress lately at Auntie Na's House! To celebrate July 4, we held our annual Interdependence Day Bazaar, at which we recognized the hard work of our staff and volunteers; in particular, the development of our new Medical Clinic. Once it is in full operation, students of Wayne State University's School of Medicine will staff this house, providing much-needed medical services to our community
. We also showed off our garden, complete with fruit trees and vegetables that will sustain our main kitchen and eventually provide produce for our Nutrition House.

Our summer field trip program is underway too, and over the past two months, the children we serve have been heading to destinations around the Detroit area which have otherwise been financially inaccessible for them. The kids of Auntie Na’s have traveled from Belle Isle to Palmer Park to Mexicantown with the assistance of staff and volunteers from Summer in the City. We are so thankful to share in these experiences and can’t wait to see what these next few weeks bring!

We still need your help!
As part of our ongoing efforts, Auntie Na’s is constantly seeking donations of items to facilitate our multiple programs and services. If you happen to have or know someone who is willing to part with a van (passenger or mini), a shed, tents, gardening materials, tools, games and activities for our bazaars, clothing, or medical supplies, it would greatly add to our organization. Truly anything you have the means to provide is sincerely appreciated. Most needed at this time is an adjustable medical bed for Auntie Na’s husband, who is currently undergoing treatment for lung cancer. As insurance cannot cover its cost, it would be most appreciated to have return some stability for their family. His battle, of course, is not over. And as always, Auntie Na’s House as well as the many branches of our family will continue to rise.

Upcoming Events
We invite you to join us for one of our upcoming events. Auntie Na’s is participating in Neighborhoods Day with help from ARISE Detroit! We will be cleaning up the community from Narden Park and moving our way back to Elmhurst. To participate, meet us at the lot at the corner of Elmhurst and Yellowstone at 9:00am on August 4 for some refreshments. We will be working from 10:00am until 6:00pm. On August 18 from 2:00pm until 6:00pm, we will be hosting a costume bazaar and potluck. Come for food, games, and as usual, services from our wonderful Wayne State Medical students. We’d love to see you there!
Thank you!
Auntie Na’s House would like to extend a huge thank you for the love and support we have received during this time of political and social turbulence. To know that there is greater support just beyond our community on Yellowstone keeps us moving closer to achieving our mission of unconditional kindness, sustainability, and justice. Thank you to those who have donated to our ongoing efforts to improve our community and to those who have applied their hands directly, literally building our organization from the ground up. Your help improves conditions for those who rely on our services to survive and, as a result, our community at large. We wish for you love and prosperity, two things which have graced us throughout this journey.
